Meet the Staff

Miss Natalie: Half Day Preschool Teacher

Hi, my name is Natalie Bartels. Welcome to Kidsports Academy! I am very excited for my 1st year here as a teacher after having worked side by side with the wonderful teaching staff here over the past two years.

Preschool is a journey for your children in which they will learn and grow and discover. It is such a rewarding job for me as a teacher to be able to watch this process as the year goes on. We learn a lot throughout the year and we also have a tons of fun! The children will get to experience hands on discovery with our science projects, have cooking in class, and even garden in the Spring!

There are so many things to learn and experience here in our Preschool program, and I look forward to sharing these experiences with my class. A love of learning is the best thing that a teacher can demonstrate to their students and I intend to do just that and have tons of fun with them this year as well! I am looking forward to a great year with the children.

Miss Dawna: Full Day Preschool Teacher

Hi, my name is Dawna Zippo and I am the mother of four wonderful daughters. I nurture my students the same way I do my own children. I celebrate their strengths and help them with their weaknesses. I want to know what your child is thinking and I want to help them realize what they say is important.

During class, we use lots of imagination. We read two or three stories a day, which take us to fabulous places and introduce us to many new adventures. We like to teach through games, rhymes and finger plays.  We enjoy exploring nature in many ways. One way is to help maintain our outside garden. The children plant seeds and then during the year watch all the magic happen! One of our many concerns is recycling the environment and respecting the world around us.

Please know that caring about one another is a top priority lesson in my classroom. Making friends and feeling good about themselves is also key. It is important for your child to be happy in my class and for you to walk out the door every day knowing that.

Miss Karen: Full Day Preschool Teacher

Hello, my name is Karen Keber, I am the proud mother of two children, mother-in-law and most especially a grandmother of one! Teaching, like parenthood has taught me to value every child for who they are.

Your child will embark on a journey that will lead them on many roads of discovery and learning. During class time we do many structured projects, but also include instrumental activities that allow the children to be creative and discover information on their own.

Your child will learn by engaging in activities that are real and meaningful to them, including cooking projects, computer time and growing things in our outdoor garden.

Being a teacher involves many rewards. Watching your child make new friends, develop new skills and enjoying school is why I love my profession. I am looking forward to another exciting year with the children.

Miss Michelle: Kindergarten Teacher

Welcome to Kidsports Academy! My name is Michelle Astalos and I have been happily teaching here for over 11 years. I am the mother of three children who all are Kidsports Academy graduates.

Our Kindergarten studies consist of Math, Science, Language Arts and Social Studies. We use the “Everyday Math” program in most of our daily activities. The day also includes reading, writing, song, exercise, crafts, stories, experiments, cooking, swim and lots of adventures.

We also participate in community building projects. Some of the projects we participated in last year were writing to our soldiers over the winter holiday season, fundraising with a bake sale for Japan’s Tsunami victims and contributions to our local food bank.

I am looking forward to another year of watching the children grow. It is so rewarding to see them in early September recognizing letters and by June reaching their reading goals. They all leave our program writing sentences and reading books. I hope your child will experience the love of learning as much as I do!
